Hello again..

I left the lights on all night for you, just like I always do! I knew you would come carrying all those treasures with you. Sweeping in here carried by the strength of such resolve to please and to excite. Once again, you succeeded.

It always seems to build as that moment approaches... its expected, yet seems new each time the gift is unwrapped. Every thought and deed work in perfect harmony to create yet another most perfect of moments.

As I look around I see it all before me and I am again swept away to so many yesterdays filled with so much joy... so much bittersweet joy. I see her standing at the kitchen sink. I see him setting up yet another whatever it is to be set up... I miss them both especially on these today's, but you come back and share them with me. You are so thoughtful and kind to me.

I see mine and Angie's first and many Christmases... the good & great ones, as well as a few we endured together that were a little harder. I see my kids and their kids... their good & great ones, as well as a few we were blessed to help walk them through. I see our friends scattered all around, yet somehow drawn to this one place for this special time.

 It's so amazing how you remember all of our family and friends and seem to work tirelessly to recall them all to me one by one. You are truly a treasure!

I am so thankful that you once again come to visit on this most special of days. You have become one of my most favored guests. In the midst of all the festivities, you are my respite, my own special,  personal gift of the holidays. 

Thank you so much memories for visiting me again on this special day. I love every moment you give me and I cherish each gift you plant in my heart! As time passes you have become a most dear friend.

Merry Christmas to all who would allow me to call you family or friend! May your special day be among the best you recall when the memories come to visit you!

Conscientious or contentious...

I have been thinking about the difference between being conscientious and contentious. One means to be thoughtful about doing something the right way, while the other means to be argumentative. They are not opposites directly, but in a more figurative way they can be. I have long considered myself to be conscientious; seeking to think, speak, and act rightly. My thought has been that it is just as easy to get along as it is to create trouble or to engage in exacerbating it! While at the same time, I tend to be head strong and resolute about things of consequence to me, and often labor arduously over my position. In other words, I can be argumentative... contentious. Doctor visits

I went to the doctor today...upper respiratory infection with a side of sinusitis! At least that is what I was told! Isn't that how it works with doctors? We wait in the "waiting" room and then are herded into some triage area for them to add to the bill with temperature, weight, and blood pressure checks! I am thinking maybe to fore go all the perfunctory "padding of the bill" and get to making me feel better! But instead, I get to read the equivalent of War and Peace in out dated magazines as I am attempting to tune out what is surely the spawn of Satan while hoping that the noxious chemical smell causes me to pass out so that time will pass more quickly. I am certain that all 26 of the people who work in the office have some role that keeps them busy, other than, of course, caring for the patients! I have learned how to cook chili, paint cars, and cheat on taxes all from the other side of those smoky glass windows of the "Reception Office." Al

Surviving now...

I start a new bible study with my college career group next week and I will be teaching a fourteen week series I call, "Surviving now...Back to the Basics." As i mentally prepare to dig into this study, I am forced to ponder how this study is so relevant to what is going on in the world. I have so many concerns for what all these young adults are facing and my fear is that they will not be grounded enough to withstand the torrent of these times that they will face. As I watch the news every day, I am baffled by the insanity of a culture seeking to bury the truths that were the building blocks of its foundation while at the same time offering no replacement for it other than a me-centered philosophy wrought with hostility and abusive intolerance!
